Cucumber & Mint with Native Australian Strawberry Gum
Strawberry gum (also known as Eucalyptus Olida) is a medium size tree, which grows in the northern tablelands of New South Wales and Victoria. Strawberry gum is the original chewing gum! Indigenous Australians passing through the Northern Tablelands would often chew on the leaves of the Strawberry Gum for their sweet berry flavour. They would also moisten the leaves and lay them over a fire to release their fragrant oils, which would help to calm stomach problems.
Lemon with Native Australian Lemon Myrtle
The Lemon Myrtle (also known as Backhousia citriodora) is a beautiful Australian shrub, whose leaves have been used by Indigenous Australians for a variety of purposes. Sucking on them provided both hydration and a boost of nutrients, vitamins and minerals. It is endemic to subtropical rainforests of central and south-eastern Queensland, with a natural distribution from Mackay to Brisbane.
Blood Orange with Native Australian Kakadu Plum
Considered a gift of the Dreamtime, the Kakadu Plum (also known as Gubinge, Billygoat Plum, Murunga, Terminalia Ferdinandiana) is Australia’s star superfood performer. Kakadu Plum has exceptional nutritional and antiseptic properties and has been an important food and medicine in Northern Australia for millennia. From March to June, the local people harvest and consume this energizing, thirst-quenching fruit. Throughout the rest of the year, the tree sap is consumed to treat joint inflammation, whilst the bark is applied to the body to treat burns, rashes and infections.
Pink Grapefruit with Native Australian Davidson Plum
Growing in several varieties, the Davidson plum (also known as Davidsonia) is a native tree found in areas of subtropical and tropical rainforests of eastern Australia. Davidson plum contains high levels of anthocyanins, natural pigments that are strong antioxidants which help protect cells against the damaging effects of free radicals.
Raspberry with Native Australian Riberry
For thousands of years, Aboriginal people on the east coast, in the hinterland and rainforest regions, relied on riberries as a core food source. The fruit was usually picked and gathered by women and children. While children thought of the berries as delicious sweet treats, adults commonly referred to them as “medicine berries”. Riberries provided essential vitamins and minerals to fight against colds and keep the immune system healthy and strong. The pulp was also used to treat ear infections.
